SAM Conservation Project

The Seattle Art Museum Conservation Studio.   I've been asked to help restore a Veronese "Venus and Adonis" that will be going out on loan and needs lots of retouching.
Paolo Veronese's "Venus and Adonis"

The painting has suffered paint loss and abrasion throughout

Lots of retouching is needed on these areas for the painting to appear "whole" again
This Jackson Pollack needs to have it's varnish removed (his paintings weren't meant to be varnished)
There are pebbles mixed in with his paint that will be an extra challenge in the varnish removal!
Wondrous Buddhas await treatment for an upcoming show

  1. What a wondrous series of challenges. Interesting, whoever varnished a pebbly speckled painting was not focused upon following the process to its inevitable conclusion.

Inky rather likes the doggy in the painting V and A.

The buddhas are, yes, wondrous. Material? Enlarged photo and studied it. Seeing rust? They are Iron? Big Hug
